Guest Lecture to students of NUST Law School by Dr. Rehana Parveen (Associate Professor, Law School, University of Birmingham)
-Students of the LLB 2022 at NUST Law School (NLS) were given a lecture on “The incorporation of European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR) into English law” by Dr. Rehana Parveen Associate Professor Law School, University of Birmingham on 30th October 2024. The lecture introduced the students to the ECHR’s historical context, the nature of rights therein, and the role of the European Court of Human Rights. It also highlighted the intersection of ECHR and English Law considering British Parliamentary Sovereignty and the role of the British Judiciary. The concepts of human rights such as absolute rights, qualified rights, and margin of appreciation were also aptly discussed. It was particularly relevant for the students of NLS as the Constitutional Law of the UK is part of the HEC’s LLB curriculum.
The faculty members, HOD, and the Principal and Dean of NLS also attended the session. They had a constructive discussion with Dr. Rehana Parveen on the topic of the lecture and the prospect of collaborations between the respective law schools. At the end of the session, the Honorable Justice (R) M. Nawaz Wahla (Principal and Dean of NLS) presented Dr. Rehana Parveen with a souvenir.
